LUISA MORETTO (Project leader)

Luisa Moretto is associate professor at the Faculty of Architecture La Cambre-Horta, Université libre de Bruxelles (Belgium), and Director of the research centre HABITER. She holds a degree in architecture (IUAV, 2003) and a PhD in Analysis and Governance of Sustainable Development (School for Advanced Studies in Venice Foundation, IUAV & Ca’ Foscari, Italy, 2008). Her research interests are focused on urban development and governance, and on urban services and poverty. She served as consultant at the UNDP-Oslo Governance Centre (2007-2009), and as associate professional officer the inter-American Development Bank (Office in Europe, Paris; 2008-2009). She was awarded a CNRS post-doc fellowship at the LATTS – Laboratoire Techniques, Territoires et Sociétés (Marne-la-Vallée, France, 2009-2010). Currently she is one of the coordinator of the N-Aerus Network-Association of European Researchers on Urbanization in the South. She is a regular reviewer for scientific journals such as the Annales de Géographie and Archivio di Studi Urbani e Regionali, and member of FRNS-supported journal CLARA Architecture/Recherche‘s editorial board. L. Moretto supervises several PhD candidates and one post-doctoral fellow in the field of sustainable urban design and governance in the Global South and of water sensitive urban design in European cities.

In MODSCAPES, she acts in the capacity of Director of the research centre HABITER, providing her experience in research coordination and management, but also in bridging research with policy and practice. In addition, her contribution is aimed at facilitating and promotng the development of the center’s research line in landscape architecture and regional planning, carried on by junior as well as experienced researchers affiliated to the center.
